Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM) has taken a significant step towards bolstering India’s electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem by entering into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with four prominent Charge Point Operators (CPOs) – Chargezone, Glida, Statiq, and Zeon. This collaboration aims to address the pressing need for an extensive and reliable EV charging infrastructure across the country. The joint effort is set to establish over 10,000 EV charging stations by the fiscal year 2025, significantly contributing to the growth of electric mobility in India.

Current Charging Infrastructure Landscape

As of now, the four CPOs involved in this partnership collectively operate nearly 2,000 charging stations in key cities nationwide. TPEM, in collaboration with Tata Power, manages an additional network of over 4,900 public chargers. This collaboration aims to build upon these existing networks, ensuring a more comprehensive and accessible charging infrastructure for electric vehicle users.

Utilizing Telematics Insights

One of the key advantages of this collaboration is the integration of TPEM’s telematics insights, gathered from more than 1.15 lakh Tata EVs on Indian roads. By leveraging this wealth of data, the partners can strategically install chargers at locations frequented by EV owners. Furthermore, the insights will be invaluable in understanding how the chargers are utilized, allowing for continuous improvement and an enhanced customer experience.

Smart Payment Gateway and Customer Benefits

The MoU also outlines plans to explore the implementation of a smart payment gateway through co-branded RFID cards. This initiative aims to simplify the payment process for EV charging, making it more user-friendly. Additionally, customers will have the opportunity to benefit from loyalty programs offered by the respective CPOs, enhancing the overall EV ownership experience. A dedicated customer care number will be established to provide assistance and support to EV users.

Strategic Collaboration for Accelerated E-Mobility

Balaji Rajan, Chief Strategy Officer at TPEM, highlighted the importance of open collaboration in accelerating India’s journey towards e-mobility.

EV adoption is a national imperative to address urban pollution,  and convenient charging infrastructure is a  key enabler for driving faster EV adoption. The need of the hour for accelerating a nationwide charging ecosystem is open collaboration, and we are delighted to announce our strategic collaboration with Chargezone, Glida, Statiq, and Zeon, to accelerate India’s journey towards e-mobility. This collaboration will benefit from TPEM’s unparalleled EV usage insights, coupled with the CPOs’ innovative charging solutions and entrepreneurial spirit, and create 10,000+ additional charging points in the country by FY25.

The collaboration between TPEM and the four leading CPOs marks a crucial milestone in the evolution of India’s electric mobility landscape. With a targeted approach to charging infrastructure development, smart payment solutions, and customer-centric initiatives, the partners aim to create a seamless and user-friendly experience for EV owners. This strategic collaboration is not only a testament to the commitment to e-mobility but also a significant stride towards making electric vehicles a mainstream choice for Indian consumers.
