Tata Motors, HPCL Partner to Optimize EV Charging Infrastructure

Tata Motors and HPCL partner to optimize EV charging infrastructure

Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. (TPEM), a frontrunner in India’s electric vehicle (EV) industry, has partnered with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL) to significantly expand the country’s EV charging infrastructure. This strategic collaboration will leverage the strengths of both companies:

  • TPEM’s Market Expertise: As India’s leading EV manufacturer with over 120,000 electric vehicles on the road, TPEM possesses invaluable insights into user behavior and charging needs.
  • HPCL’s Widespread Network: HPCL boasts an extensive network of over 21,500 fuel stations across India, providing ideal locations for establishing convenient charging stations.

Strategic Charger Deployment and Data-Driven Improvements

The partnership aims to strategically install charging stations at popular locations frequented by Tata EV owners, ensuring a seamless charging experience. HPCL will also leverage data collected from charger usage to continuously improve customer experience.

Furthermore, both companies are exploring the introduction of a co-branded RFID card for a hassle-free payment system, aiming to make EV charging as convenient as possible.

A Well-Positioned Partnership for Mass EV Adoption

This collaboration is a significant step forward for India’s EV ecosystem. TPEM, with its dominant market share of over 68% in electric passenger vehicles, and HPCL, with its commitment to sustainability and its ambitious target of installing 5,000 EV charging stations by December 2024, are well-positioned to drive mass EV adoption.

The partnership builds upon TPEM’s continuous efforts to strengthen the EV ecosystem, including establishing the first dedicated EV store in India and collaborating with various charging network operators. HPCL has also made significant strides with over 3,000 EV charging stations, including battery swapping stations, already operational nationwide.

Broadening the Alliance for a Sustainable Future

It’s important to note that Tata Motors has also partnered with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) to install 7,000 electric vehicle charging stations by the next year. By joining forces with both HPCL and BPCL, Tata Motors is making significant strides towards building a robust and accessible EV charging network across India.

Global case studies highlight the critical role of accessible and convenient charging infrastructure in accelerating EV adoption. This collaboration between two industry leaders is a promising step towards propelling India’s EV revolution to its next phase.
